A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Oyo State , Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao, has submitted a letter of intent to contest the forthcoming 2019 governorship election to the National Chairman of the party, Chief Joseph Avazi.
Alao who was accompanied by his Head of Policy and Strategy, Mr. Lekan Salawu and other members of his campaign team, submitted the letter to the National Chairman last Friday, at the party’s national secretariat, Kwali Close, Area 8, Abuja.
It will be recalled that Alao had on 28 February, 2018, declared to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election on the platform of AD, the party he described as the most credible alternative.
Oyedele in the letter dated 8th August, 2018, and copy of which was made available to journalists, promised to develop Oyo State in line with the manifesto of the party if he wins the primary and ultimately victorious in the general election.
While speaking with journalists after submission of the letter, Alao lauded the party leadership for being steadfast in piloting the affairs of the party and promised not to let the party down.
He said, “I understand how tedious it is to pilot a party like ours in this turbulent time. I commend your leadership for remaining steadfast and absolutely committed to the promotion of progressive ideology. Mr. Chairman sir, I assure you of total victory in Oyo State come 2019.”
The National Chairman, Avazi, assured Alao of the cooperation of the leadership of the party at all time and promised a level playing ground for all aspirants.
“I welcome you dearly to the National Secretariat of our great party. You are at home. I have heard about your contributions in the Oyo State chapter of our party and I am happy meeting you today.
” Let me state clearly that by the virtue of submitting this letter, you are the first and only recognized gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State until others come forward. What I can assure you is total cooperation from the national leadership and a level playing ground during the party primaries. I urge you to continue your good work”, he said.
