After 34 years of royal battle among the royal families, an ancient community, Ado Awaye in Araromi Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Oyo State get new monarch in person of His Royal Highness, Oba (Revd) Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi, Makuledoye II, Iludero 1, Alado of Ado Awaye.
The town had the last king reigned between 1961-1983 and since then the ancient community has embroiled in royal tussle but with the intervention of the state government, court judgement and the Alado kingmakers, Oba Folakanmi got coronated and staff of office as 13th Alado of Ado Awaye on Friday 21st, July, 2017.
Ado Awaye has an estimated population of about 300,000 people while it’s environs has an estimated population of about 100,000 people covering over 100 villages with the total areas of about 1,152 square kilometres.
The community have heavy presence of the Fulanis, Egedes, Sabes, Togolese, Igbos and Hausas which portray the hospitable characteristics of Ado Awaye.
After receiving the beaded crown from His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo and Staff of Office from the State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the new monarch stated that he would dedicate his life to the service of his people and the Ado Awaye community.
As well as committing his knowledge, contact, integrity and all endowment granted him by God to the growth and development his people, the community and it’s environs.
Oba Folakanmi who is the first educated monarch of the community since 1500 of its existence while pledging to be fair and just in all his dealings for the betterment of all, maintaining that his ruling will be all encompassing and appealing to all those indigenes of the community home and abroad to support the new dawn for the betterment of the community and the people.
The Monarch disclosed that parts of his vision for Ado Awaye community and Araromi LCDA at large is to upgrade Ado Awaye tourism centre to a world class tourist centre as the town Ado Hill in known for is uniqueness for having the only suspended lake in Africa named “Iyake”.
The monarch also seek the support of the authority concerned to place Alado in his rightful position in the hierarchy of Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
He also promised to establish Oba Folakanmi Educational Subsidy Foundation, formation of Christian and Muslim Consultative Forum, Ado Awaye Alluviation Trust Fund, Anti Epidermic Policy, King Telecommunication System among others.
Speaking at the coronation ceremony, the Alaafin of Oyo enjoined the community for continuous peaceful coexistence and seek the support of the indigenes Ado Awaye home and abroad for the new monarch and the growth and development of the community.
Speaking through the Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Jaiyeola, Governor Ajimobi said with the new monarch in Ado Awaye, new and better things are bound to happen in Ado Awaye, charging the community for the successful reign of the new Alado of Ado Awaye.
