The Ezendigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, Dr. Alex C. Anozie, has congratulated the leadership of Igbo, the Southeast governors, Ohaneze leadership and people of the southeast on the peaceful hosting of President Muhammodu Buhari.
Anozie gave this commendation in his speech at an event organise to celebrate his 20th coronation anniversary.
He maintained that this singular act demonstrated by Igbo during the President visit to the zone, Igbos have shown the world again that they are peace loving people at all times.
According to him, “all we are demanding for always are justice, fairness, equity, and security of life and property of every Nigerian in any part of the country.
In his welcome address, Anozie said he was democratically elected and crowned by Ndigbo who reside in Ibadan and Oyo state in 1997 “according to our Igbo culture and tradition and gave me the Igbo title of Ezendigbo, Ezedigbomma nala Ibadan and Oyo state. “
“This particular action was communicated to the appropriate authorities accordingly in the state and beyond. “
The paramount head of the Oyo Igbo community, however, revealed that in last twenty years, he had gone through so many travails, but thanked God for seeing him through the ups and downs.
Anozie expressed his appreciation to members of the Igbo community in the state and friends who stood by him over the years.
“I sincerely thank our host authorities, both the state government and the Olubadan and council and other Obas in the state, who tolerated us with our problems all these years”, he added.
He declared that his heart was full of joy because “all these years, satanic forces bared their fangs in making sure they use us Igbo to cause very serious crises in the state, but through the special grace of God, we became wiser than those forces of darkness, and we refused to dance to their music of rioting and crises. “
The Ezendigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state also used the opportunity to congratulate people of Anambra state on the successful conduct of the just concluded governorship election in the state.
He called on the people of other states in Nigeria to emulate the Anambra example by making politics in the country to become a thing of joy, peace and progress, and not of sorrow and blood letting.
Anozie also sent out the condolences of Ndigbo in Ibadan and Oyo state to the people of Anambra state, Igbo people and Nigerians in general over the demise of the first civilian Vice President of the country, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
On the conferment of honorary Igbo titles to distinguished personalities, Anozie revealed that those honoured were being recognised for their roles in the promotion of Igbo culture and tradition, as well as their roles in making life more meaningful to Ndigbo.
“Today, I have given out Igbo titles to very few carefully selected deserving personalities, one among them are husband and wife of Igbo origin who are living in America for many years now. They have all their children born in America.
“And for the first time they came to Nigeria with these beautiful children, and they visited me in my country home, Igbo Ukwu few some years back with these children.
“To my greatest surprise, I saw all these children who were born in America and were visiting Nigeria for the very first time since they were born, all speaking Igbo language even better than Igbos who reside in Igboland.
“I then inquired from their mother the magic. She informed me that they made it compulsory that as soon as these children are back from school, all members of the family change to our Igbo language in all their communications.
“I was so impressed that I decided to give them this title to send message across to every other Igbo family the world over, the importance of teaching our children our Igbo language, no matter where we reside all over the world.”
Chief of Staff to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Pastor Gbade Ojo, represented the governor at the occasion, which had In attendance, leaders of Igbo communities from across the state.
Activities at the colourful ceremony included conferment of Igbo titles on distinguished personalities, book laugh and cutting of anniversary cake.
In his speech at the occasion, the Chief of Staff to governor Ajimobi called for unity among members of the Igbo community in the state.
Dr. Gbade Ojo commented members of the Oyo Igbo community for contributing positively to the economic and social development of the state.
