Enugu State Hails Promasidor For Career Guidance Initiative

The Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Mr. Anders Einarsson has pledged the commitment of the company to its career guidance initiative, “Harness Your Dream” as well as other youth development projects.

In his address at the fourth edition of the programme, held at Queen’s College, Enugu on Thursday, Einarsson said the company is encouraged by the positive impact of Promasidor “Harness Your Dream”, which was launched only a year ago.

Einarsson, who was represented by the Head of Legal and Corporate Communications, Mr Andrew Enahoro said to the students of the host and neighbouring schools: “Indeed, your school is fortunate to host this event, which is the fourth edition… Going by the testimonies of the target groups, some of which you might have viewed on the dedicated Facebook page (Harness Your Dream), the previous editions have recorded tremendous impact.”

He explained that the project was initiated to guide students to choose careers that match their talents, skills and aspirations, adding that JS 3 students were specifically targeted because they would by next session select relevant subjects that would determine their future careers.

Einarsson said that Promasidor staff, who themselves have become successful in their chosen careers and passionate about impacting knowledge, have enthusiastically embraced the project as a way of giving back to the society.

The staff, who served as resource persons, shared their educational and career experiences with the students and explained how to become professionals in several disciplines. These are: Personnel Management and Emerging Entrepreneurial Opportunities, Information and Communication Technology. Others are: Accounting and Business Management, and Digital Marketing.

In his goodwill message, the Enugu State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze expressed deep appreciation to Promasidor, makers of Cowbell Milk, Loya Milk, Miksi Milk, Top Tea, Onga and other quality products, for adding value to the students.

The commissioner, who was represented by Mrs Chidiogo Ugodu said that the impact of the project would be felt in the years ahead of the beneficiaries, who would now be able to make the right career choices.

Ugodu later shared her personal experience with newsmen. “I have harnessed my dream today. With this programme, the students now know about other career choices. Promasidor, we thank you for coming to Enugu. We thank you for adding value to us. We will like you to extend this programme to other parts of the state,” she said.

The Deputy Director Guidance and Counselling in the state’s Ministry of Education, Mr Lazarus Ude; and the Principal of Queen’s School, Enugu, Mrs Ada Nweke also thanked Promasidor for extending the programme to the state.

“You did not make any mistake by choosing our state as one of your catchment zones. Our amiable governor is education friendly. He always want to see children achieve their aims in life,” Nweke said.

Celebrity guests, Chidinma and Chidiebere Aneke (the Aneke Twins), who thanked Promasidor for the initiative, explained that they might have studied different courses in the university if they had been exposed to career guidance. They had degrees in Mass Communications and Banking and Finance at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Chidiebere recalled: “If we had the kind of opportunity that you now have, we won’t have read those courses. We were in our church drama group and then found out that we had the talent for acting. Somebody invited us and then we began to act. But after school, we would go to the movie industry for auditioning. We found out that we needed to know more about acting, so we went to school.”

Promasidor has been in the forefront of promoting youth development. For 20 years, its flagship brand, Cowbellpedia, has encouraged Mathematics education through the Cowbellpedia Secondary School Mathematics Television Quiz Show.

Through Loya Swim Meet, which has just concluded its third edition, Promasidor also supports the sports development aspirations of hundreds of youths.

A CSR initiative of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Harness Your Dream has been held in Lagos and Ogun States, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja since it was launched in November last year. It is a pan-Nigeria project, which is held every school term.

The primary objective of “Harness Your Dreams” is to help public school students understand varieties of career options and guide them along their career paths.
