The Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Moor Plantation, Ibadan will soon commence the enrollment of students for training in agricultural development and other related courses.
This disclosure was made by the Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede during the unveiling and launching of the 50th Anniversary logo of the IAR&T, Moor Plantation, Ibadan at the Institute’s hall.
The Institute is only for training and research for academicians, farmers, organisations and others but as the Institute is celebrating golden jubilee, it want to add another feather into its cap by enrolling students.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the Institute, Prof J. A Adediran said IAR&T which is a multi-commodity research centre is one of the four national agricultural research institutes affiliated to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
He maintained that the historical antecedents, statutory role and achievement of the this great Institute are worthy of emulation as well be celebrated.
According to him, “In the early 1920’s, the national experimental station came into operation on Moor Plantation ground. This later transformed into Research Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (MANR) of the then Western Region of Nigeria.
“The Research Division with three schools of Agriculture (now FCA Ibadan, FCAHPT Ibadan and FCA Akure) became Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) in 1969 through a Charter signed by the Military Governor of Western Region and the then Vice Chancellor of University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University)”.
Adediran disclosed that the Institute from that time has been saddled with both national and zonal mandates, pointed out that the unique status of this Institute is the multi-commodity nature of its research programmes covering both crops and livestock.
Speaking on the logo, Adediran said, ” the logo will tell the world that IAR&T is 50 years, a golden jubilee and after it has been unveiled, it will appear on all literature, bags, shirts, stickers, paraphernalia and in all prints and digital media including the website and Facebook page associated with the Institute “, he concluded.
