Mandela’s ANC Loses Power In Johannesburg

Mandela’s legacy, the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa has lost control of the country’s largest city and economic centre, Johannesburg for the very first time in 22 years after the end of apartheid in the country.

The party has also lost control of the capital, Pretoria and Cape Town.

The party lost the city council to an opposition party member the Democratic Alliance (DA), Mayor Herman Mashaba.

The ANC had run the city since the end of apartheid in 1994 but it lost its council majority in local elections, even though it is still the largest party in the country.
