No Amount Of Threat Will Deter Us, Oyo APC Unity Forum Tells Ajimobi

The Unity Forum of the Oyo State All Progressives Congress, (APC) has dismissed the allegation by the Oyo State government that the group‎ plans to burn the party’s Oke-Ado, Ibadan secretariat as a tissue of lies.

According to the group in a statement signed by its secretary, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, it described the allegation as one of the plot to prevent members of the group from participating in the next local government congress of the party.

It also stated that it was a plot to clampdown on members of the forum and begin their physical elimination by the government.

The Forum says that the author of the statement,Morounkola Thomas who is the Executive Assistant to the governor is already under investigation for a plot to assassinate a member of the Forum,Senator Monsurat Sunmonu.

The government, had through his executive assistant on political matters, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, ‎alleged members of the party of planning to burn down the state secretariat of the party in “their desperate bid to scuttle Saturday’s local government election and party congresses.‎”

This is coming few days after members of the Unity Group triumphed over Ajimobi’s loyalists as they failed to obtain nomination forms for the just concluded ward congress of the party.

The group, however, said that its members are more than determined to claim their rightful place in the party, advising the governor as the chief security of the state to beef up security since they have uncovered the alleged plan.

According to the statement, ‎”We found the statement laughable and it could only have come from somebody like Morohunkola Thomas, somebody we can describe as a political harlot, who benefits during political crisis. And such person, who can do any dirty job as he has lost the little integrity he had, perfectly fits into Ajimobi’s cabinet.

“It is shameful that the outgoing Abiola Ajimobi administration is advertising its ignorance publicly. Imagine a government that claims to have invested heavily in security coming out to say it has uncovered a  plot by a group to burn down a party house.

“Rather than intimidate anybody, why haven’t they swung into action. We believe it is an attempt to silence us and nothing of such will deter us. Most of our members are people who have participated in pro-democracy activities, when things were worse; these are people who have had to bear all intimidation and harassment, as opposition party members between 2003 and 2011.

“We are the ones who should have accused the government of attacking our members with thugs. Most of our members were not only attacked, they are still being threatened by thugs.

“Though we did not expect Ajimobi and his loyalists to be happy at this time. It’s like collecting something precious from a little kid, the child would cry. Before we decided to take our destinies into our hands, many members of our great party had suffered in the hands of Ajimobi and his loyalists. Imagine the governor handing over the fate of many partymen to somebody who was nowhere to be found during the struggle to reclaim the state in 2011.

“Is it not so sad for sponsored thugs to attack son of late leader of late leader of the party, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, Hon. Adedapo Lam-Adesina, in the presence of the governor? Hon. Olusumbo Olugbemi has received more than 10 threats from loyalists of the governor. Rather than resort to counter-force, we got them reported to the appropriate quarters. We’ are  resolute in our bid to rescue our party from the claws of opportunists masquerading as saviours. He should be prepare to leave if he wants; we will not leave. We know his antics. If after 7 years in office, he cannot boast of majority in the party, that shows the kind of leader he is.

“We wonder why the same Morohunkola who advised him against obtaining forms for his loyalists is now advising him to intimidate real members of the party, “the statement added.
