The resignation of suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Chie Walter Onnoghen, has been confirmed by a senior lawyer in his legal team.
It was reported by Punch that the senior advocate, who said he did not have Onnoghen’s authorisation to speak on the issue said: “I have just spoken with him. He confirmed to me that he resigned voluntarily yesterday (Thursday).”
“He said he resigned in the interest of the Judiciary.”
It will be recalled that Onnoghen had reportedly sent his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, barely 24 hours after the National Judicial Council (NJC) concluded investigating him for various allegations of misconduct.
