OYSG Designs OYOMESI To Enhance Students Learning, Character


The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela has declared that the just inaugurated OYOMESI, is a program designs to enhances students to be found worthy in learning and character. 

As he also disclosed that Ibadan, the state capital has been adopted as one of the learning cities by UNESCO. 

The  Commissioner made the disclosure while thanking the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, CIIN, which pledged its commitment towards partnering with Oyo State Government in her efforts to promote educational development through various commendable policies in repositioning educational sector in the state.

According to Olowofela “we are taking proactive steps to forestall hazards and other issues that can affect education generally, by keying into insurance scheme. All these efforts of the government are towards changing the paradigm of education and make sure we don’t rest on our oars in developing the state’s educational sector to world standard”.

He noted that policies of the state government in education are already yielding dividends which made the state score 54.18% in this year’s WAEC examination as the best result in the last 18 years in the state. 

He therefore thanked the institute for the corporate social responsibility to advance education in the state

The National President of the CIIN, Mrs. Funmi Badminton Ashaye, made the pledge during the donation of textbooks by the institute and Axa Mansard Insurance company to some Secondary schools at the Ministry of Education in the state Secretariat, Ibadan. 

According to the President, the institute is partnering with the state government as a way to complement effort of Governor Abiola Ajimobi led government to reposition the state’s educational sector. 

According to her, “the partnership is aimed at expanding the capacity of delivering of qualitative knowledge of insurance because we learnt that there is dearth of knowledge about insurance by the school students. The books have been distributed free of charge to secondary schools in 16 states including FCT while we are on cause to cover 36 states in the federation”.

Corroborating her, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Axa Mansard Insurance company, Mr. Kunle Ahmed stressed the need of imparting knowledge of insurance in the school students. 

According to him, the insurance company is supporting CIIN’s initiative to enlighten the students on how to safeguard their assets and a reason they are catching them young. 

According to him, “Insurance scheme is imperative in forestalling bad debt during accidents or unfortunate occurrences. Insurance is the most misunderstood profession, a reason people on daily basis are falling victims of hazards.

“The archaic practice in the past is for people to run to friends and family members for assistance during hazards but in the 21th century, insurance company is the appropriate institution to help victims during unfortunate occurrences.
