The Nigerian Police has sealed off the venue of the planned National Convention of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), preventing the convention from holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The is follow by the ruling of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday presided by Justice Okong Abang in a motion filed by a factional chairman of the party, Ali-Modu Sheriff, the ruling also restrained the Inspector General of Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising or monitoring the planned convention pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had earlier clear the convention to go ahead as planned. The motion which was filed by the convention planning committee, Justice Ibrahim Walifa stated that the party’s National Convention Planning Committee was duly constituted and that the convention stands valid.
It is good to note that the two courts one sitting in Abuja and Port Harcourt respectively are of the same jurisdictions.
