Nigerian popular Rapper, Ruggedman, has been dropped as anchor of the annual Nigerian Breweries Plc-sponsored musical band reality show, Star Quest. The show, which went on air some weeks back, did not see the feisty rapper returning to hosting duties. Rather, smooth-talking Tinsel soap star and Big Brother Nigeria contestant, Gideon Okeke, is the new host of the show.
Even though there is no official reason was for the dropping the Rapper who was becoming synonymous with the show having hosted it for three consecutive seasons, a source close to the brewery giant alleged that one of the reasons he was dropped might not be unconnected with the belief that Ruggedman’s career hasn’t really been on an upward swing despite releasing an album, Unstoppable, last year.
An official of NB Plc tells E-Punch,“Ruggedman was exceptional in the seasons he anchored the show but we wanted to try a new person that is why we brought in Gideon Okeke.
Ruggedman is still a part of the family.” Meanwhile, the six bands that will compete in this year’s edition of Star Quest bands are: Golden Clef, Quantum Vibes, Da Blingz, D’Rayz, Crystals and Soul Rhythm. Each of the bands is made up of six members – vocalists and instrumentalists – who were selected after a rigorous auditions process held in different parts of the country.
